A look inside San Francisco's Portola Fest, the city's loudest event

D.Davis30 min ago

Now in its third year, Portola brings a tastefully curated selection of DJs and producers from across the wide spectrum of electronic music. There are classic house legends (Honey Dijon), sleazy aughts throwbacks (Peaches) and groundbreaking hyperpop producers like A. G. Cook, who had the standout set of Saturday night. Tucked in between the thumping kick drums are a few pop curveballs ( Rebecca Black ) and hip-hop iconoclasts, plus an EDM headliner or two for good measure (the most fashionable attendees we found were there for Rufus du Sol).

Given that we're talking about bass-heavy electronic music here, the festival has garnered a very loud reputation , with the city of Alameda demanding that the event be canceled on several occasions. However, as of Sunday morning, the City of Alameda told SFGATE that there were not a significant amount of noise complaints called in. The San Francisco Police Department did not return a comment by time of publication.
