Bakersfield police investigate fatal car crash in East Bakersfield

The Bakersfield Police Department reported they are investigating a deadly car crash that happened in East Bakersfield on September 28, 2024.

Bakersfield Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of E. Truxtun Ave. regarding a car crash involving two vehicles around 11:14 p.m.

Officers arrived and located the driver of one of the involved vehicles had sustained major injuries. Emergency Medical personnel arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The passenger in her vehicle had also sustained major injuries and was hospitalized at a nearby hospital. The Bakersfield Police Department said he is in critical condition.

The driver of a Dodge Durango was not injured. A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Dodge Durango was driving west on E. Truxtun Ave. when he rear-ended the other vehicle which was stopped.

The driver was detained by security officers working at a nearby business until officers arrived. Speed and alcohol impairment are believed to be factors in the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation. The identity of the woman will be released by the Kern County Coroner's Office.
