Bengals get first win of the season with victory against Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WXIX) - The Cincinnati Bengals (1-3) get their first win of the season with Sunday's 34-24 victory against Andy Dalton and the Carolina Panthers.

On a pivotal 3rd and 6, Burrow connected with Ja'Marr Chase to get the Bengals a first down.

Nothing would come of the drive for the Bengals after a devastating interception thrown by Burrow.

Trey Hendrickson, Cincinnati's top defensive player, went down on the field during the Panthers' drive.

Replay showed he and teammate Sam Hubbard's heads collided during the pass rush. Hendrickson was able to walk off the field under his own power. He has been taken to the blue medical tent on the sideline. Hendrickson will not return to the game due to a neck injury, the team announced.

Carolina did get a field goal out of the drive to cut into the Bengals' lead. Cincinnati now leads 31-24.

The Bengals were unable to get into scoring position and punted the ball back to Carolina.

The Panthers take over at their 8-yard line.

Cincinnati's defense came up big and forced the Panthers to punt. Burrow and the offense back on the field with 4:23 left in the game.

A clock-draining drive and a McPherson field goal have the Bengals in position to get their first win of the season.

Cincinnati is 34-24 with 1:14 left.

The Bengals' defense did not allow the Panthers to get any points on the game's final drive. Cincinnati wins, 34-24.

The second half gets underway with the Bengals having the ball and leading 21-14.

It was the Chase Brown drive to start the third quarter.

The Bengals running back capped off the drive with a rushing touchdown to increase their lead to 28-14.

Cincinnati's defense did not allow Andy Dalton and the Panthers to get a single first down on Carolina's ensuing drive.

Carolina lined up to punt on their next drive, but the Panthers tried a trick play with the punt-pass. The pass fell incomplete and Cincinnati takes over on offense.

Evan McPherson's 56-yard field goal on the drive increases the Bengals lead to 31-14 with less than three minutes left in the quarter.

The Panthers did respond with a touchdown pass from Dalton to Diontae Johnson. Cincinnati still leads 31-21 with 53 seconds left in the third quarter.

The quarter opens with the Panthers on offense and down 7-0 to the Bengals.

Carolina, on the Bengals' 45-yard line, converted a fourth down attempt to continue their drive.

The gamble paid off the Panthers as they scored on a rushing touchdown. The Panthers' extra point tied the game at seven.

Ja'Marr Chase makes highlight play On third down, Ja'Marr Chase made the most of his first catch of the day. He took a Burrow pass, broke out of a tackle, and sprinted to the end zone for the 63-yard touchdown.

And what did the Bengals star do with the touchdown ball? He found his dad in the crowd and gave it to him.

The Panthers once again put together a long drive that culminated with a touchdown pass from Dalton.

With a little more than one minute left in the half, the game is tied at 14.

The Bengals get the ball back with one timeout and a minute left in the half. Cincinnati does get the ball to start the second half.

Cincinnati, in a goal-to-go situation, scored a touchdown with one second left in the opening half.

Bengals lead, 21-14.

The Bengals won the coin toss and chose to start the game on defense.

Former Bengals' quarterback Andy Dalton connected with his wide receiver for a 39-yard pass to move into Cincinnati territory.

Defensive back Mike Hilton was injured as the Panthers near the end zone. He was helped off the field and taken into the medical blue tent. Hilton shortly after was seen up and walking around on the Cincinnati sideline.

The Bengals' defense kept Carolina out of the end zone as the Panthers run attempt was stuffed on 4th and goal from the 1-yard line.

Jue Burrow and the offense begin their opening drive from their own 1-yard line.

An 8-yard catch from Tee Higgins gives the Bengals their first first down of the game.

Burrow was seen limping after one of Cincinnati's offensive linemen got pushed back into the lower leg of the Bengals star.

The Bengals end up punting the ball back to the Panthers.

Vonn Bell, in his return to Carolina, intercepted a Dalton pass to get Burrow the ball back.

On a 3rd and goal run, Chase Brown got into the end zone for the Bengals touchdown. Cincinnati leads 7-0 late in the 1st quarter.

Week 5 It will be an AFC North rivalry game next week when the Bengals host the Baltimore Ravens at Paycor Stadium. Next Sunday's game starts at 1 p.m.
