Browns News: Star RB Nick Chubb Given Massive Injury Update

While the Cleveland Browns try to figure out how to turn their season around, they could be getting back a key piece to the puzzle soon. Star running back Nick Chubb is expected to return to practice this week.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the news on social media.

Chubb is not expected to play in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders for Cleveland but he could make a midseason return. Rapoport provided more details.

"Sources say Nick Chubb , who is on the team's physically unable to perform list while recovering from a multi-ligament knee injury suffered in Week 2 of last season, will have his practice window opened this coming Wednesday. The Pro Bowler is not expected to play in Cleveland's Week 5 game against the Commanders, but the team opening his three-week window will be a significant sign that he is set to return midseason as Chubb and the Browns had hoped."

If the Browns can get their star back, it could vastly help their offense out. Cleveland has looked a little shaky on the offensive side of the ball so far this season. In a loss to the New York Giants last week, the Browns only mustered up 69 yards on the ground.

With Chubb likely returning to practice this coming week, the team will slowly try to work him back into things. Coming off a massive injury, Cleveland will want to be careful with how they use him.

But this is exciting for the Browns as Chubb was one of the better running backs in the NFL prior to his injury. In 2022, he rushed for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns, showing off his explosiveness.

He has been on the PUP list and the team will have three weeks to active him to the active roster. Chubb was hopeful for a return this season when he spoke about his recovery during the summer.

"I like where I'm at. I'm where I need to be. I would say that the biggest thing for me is getting better every day."

The Browns sit with a record of 1-2 in the new season so this is welcomed news, to say the least. Cleveland has been using backup Jerome Ford in Chubb's absence and while he has been decent, Chubb could help turn this offense fully loose.
