Sports Chiefs vs. Chargers: Is Injured Herbert Really Starting?

The last time we saw Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on a big stage? He'd just been knocked around in a loss to Pittsburgh after playing on a bum ankle that required him to wear a walking boot during last Sunday's postgame.

Today comes another stage, and while Herbert has been nursing a high right ankle sprain and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs ...

He is is preparing to play, according to multiple reports.

The Chargers have ruled out three players ahead of the matchup.

Los Angeles has ruled out offensive tackle Rashawn Slater (pectoral), edge defender Joey Bosa (hip) and linebacker Junior Colson (hamstring) for Sunday's game. Also, tackle Joe Alt (knee) has been downgraded to "doubtful'' - a problem waiting to happen in terms of protecting Herbert.

Herbert was a limited participant in practice all week as he is trying to work through an ankle problem. In LA's loss last week to the Steelers, he left the stadium in a walking boot after the team used three QBs in the game.

Coach Jim Harbaugh is not being very forthcoming about Herbert's participation against the undefeated Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs.

"Listed as questionable, we'll see," said the coach of the 2-1 Chargers, who have been more of a run-first offense in the opening weeks of the year.
