Danville Area Community Center prepares to reopen renovated locker rooms

Danville, Pa. — The Danville Area Community Center (DACC) is excited to announce that its newly-renovated locker rooms are ready for use. The renovations were made with an investment of $400,000 from its $1.5 million capital campaign.

The locker rooms will have a soft opening today, followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Sept. 30, just in time for fall swim season.

"We're thrilled to see this first phase of renovations complete," said DACC Chief Operating Officer Heather Laubach. "From our members and guests to our contributors and staff — everyone has been looking forward to this reopening. The wait has definitely been worth it."

The locker rooms were closed on June 17 to let Gray Builders begin renovations. Members and summer campers adapted during this time by arriving swim-ready and using pool deck showers to rinse off before swimming.

"Gray Builders did an outstanding job working within the timeline," Laubach added.

The renovation took just over 100 days to complete. The final touches were completed on Sept. 27, with a deep clean on Saturday.

The timing is ideal as fall swim teams, including high school and regional groups, gear up for their upcoming competitions. The facility is also widely used for swim lessons, recreational swimming, and birthday parties.

The $1.5 million Embracing Our Legacy, Growing for the Future campaign has already raised over $1.3 million, supporting a vision to upgrade the entire facility. Planned improvements include the creation of social spaces like "Danville's Living Room," upgraded mechanical systems, and new program offerings. DACC asks everyone to please consider supporting this important community facility.

Harry Mathias, the campaign's private fundraising consultant, noted, "There's a lot of excitement about the renovations. You can hear people saying, 'Did you peek through the door?' or 'Have you seen the new fixtures?'"

Looking ahead, DACC plans to add a preschool program for children ages 3-5. Other future projects include upgrades to the group exercise studio, outdoor sports courts, fitness equipment, and parking lot improvements.

"As Jim Collins said in Good to Great, the flywheel is turning," Mathias continued. "The DACC has always been great, but now we have tremendous momentum for an even brighter future."
