A 55-year-old Davenport woman was in custody Sunday after Davenport Police say she wrote fraudulent checks earlier this year at Hy-Vee stores in Davenport, according to court records.

Donna Smith faces six felony charges, two of third-degree theft against an older individual and four for forgery; and six aggravated misdemeanor charges including identification theft under $1,500 and three of third-degree theft, court records show.

In arrest affidavits, Davenport Police say Smith wrote fraudulent checks for groceries. Some of the checks were in the name of an older person, and some were in the name of a deceased person.

Additionally, police say in affidavits, Smith returned an item to Hy-Vee, 2200 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, which had been purchased from the Hy-Vee in Silvis with a fraudulent check.

Court records say Smith, who earlier was convicted for theft in Scott County and Linn County, was arrested on a warrant on Friday. She was being held in Scott County Jail on a $50,000 bond, and is set for a preliminary hearing Oct. 8 in Scott County Court.
