Hot Days Expected to Usher in October in SoCal

Southern California will experience unseasonably warm temperatures this week, with highs in the upper 90s in some valley areas and the triple digits in the high desert, forecasters said Sunday.

Sunday's high in downtown Los Angeles is expected to be 81, but will rise to about 89 on Monday and stay that way through at least Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Van Nuys will see a high of 87 Sunday, then rise to 97 Monday before hitting 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the Antelope Valley, Palmdale will reach 92 on Sunday, then rise to 97 Monday, 102 on Tuesday and 101 on Wednesday, according to the NWS.

Temperatures will be cooler in Orange County, mostly staying in the 80s all week in inland areas.

Daytime temperatures at the beach will generally remain in the 70s, but will reach the 80s Tuesday and Wednesday in Santa Monica.

Overnight lows will generally be in the 60s throughout the week.

The warm and dry conditions will create elevated fire danger Monday through Wednesday, mainly in the mountains and valleys.

"A building heat wave combined with very low humidity, gusty northeast-southeast winds, and potential for large vertical plume growth will bring an extended period of elevated-brief critical fire wx conditions across mountains, valleys, and foothills through Wed," the NWS' Los Angeles office said Sunday.

A slight cooling trend is expected to begin Thursday.
