Sports Jalen Milroe Makes College Football History in Win Over No. 2 Georgia

The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide went from dominating the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs to nearly ending up on the wrong end of a historic comeback in the Week 5 marquee matchup.

In what was Kalen DeBoer's first SEC game and meeting with Kirby Smart, his Crimson Tide squad immediately punched Georgia in the mouth. By the time halftime rolled around, Alabama was leading by 23 points.

Georgia came charging back in the second half, even taking a 34-33 lead late in the fourth quarter thanks to a 67-yard touchdown pass by Carson Beck to Dillon Bell. However, as he had been doing all game, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe came up big.

On the very first play of Alabama's next drive, Milroe hit Ryan Williams for a 75-yard touchdown to help seal the 41-34 win. While the game-winning touchdown is likely all Milroe is worried about, he also happened to make some college football history.

According to ESPN's Cole Cubelic, Milroe became the first player in AP Poll history to throw for 300 yards, rush for 100 yards and record two rushing scores against a top five opponent. A mark that is quite impressive when you consider that the AP Poll dates back all the way to 1936.

Milroe finished the game having completed 27-of-33 passes for 374 yards with two passing touchdowns, while also adding 117 yards rushing and another two scores.

On top of the historic performance, Milroe also solidified himself as the Heisman favorite, according to FanDuel . Milroe (+170) jumped both Miami quarterback (+500) and Colorado's two-way star Travis Hunter (750+) in the Heisman odds, as it was Ward who came into Saturday as the favorite.

Milroe and the Crimson Tide will have the next week off before they resume play on October 15 against Vanderbilt.
