JoAnn Sowden

September 27, 1935 - September 20, 2024

BILLINGS - JoAnn Sowden, of Billings, passed away at home, Friday September 20, 2024. She was born September 27, 1935 in Nome, ND to Oscar and Stella Skramstad.

After graduating from Nome High School, JoAnn moved to Valley City, ND where she met and married Jerry Sowden, her husband of 47 years. Throughout their married life, they moved around with Jerry's career in education, making their home in Linton and McClusky, ND as well as Culbertson, Shelby and Hotsprings, MT.

JoAnn worked as an Administrative Assistant for a number of government agencies throughout her career. Upon retirement in 1988 they settled in Billings, MT.

Together they had four children: Kathy Baumann (Dave), Linton, ND, Jeff Sowden (Marlene) Billings, MT, Dee Hoff (Perry) Atlanta, GA, and Jeri Hein (Kevin) Hotsprings MT; along with 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Jerry.

JoAnn was active in the Jr. Womans Club of Billings, Red Hat Womens Club and Golden Dancers of Billings. She was very outgoing and always loved a party.

Memorial service will be held October 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Smith West Funeral Chapel.
