Kite Fest fills the sky at Lincoln Park in Kenosha

It wasn't a bird, it wasn't a plane and it wasn't Superman. All those objects soaring through the air Saturday were kites, taking flight as part of the "Time to Fly" Kite Fest in Lincoln Park.

Dozens of families gathered at the park to enjoy a windy afternoon of kite flying Saturday, as the event marked the culmination of special activities and events this summer and fall overseen by the Kenosha Parks Alliance.

Miguel Olayo and Daniel Olayo-Davidson, 3, were flying a kite together at the event, and had been to prior events.

"It's the perfect weather for flying kites," Miguel Olayo said.

Beth Dahl, and her daughter Lena, 7, were there for the first time, though. Lena, who was helping her mother launch a kite into the sky, said she liked it and was having fun.

Kris Kochman, community relations liaison, said the event for families Saturday was completely free, including food.

"We're grateful for all of our partners who put on programming," she said. "It's a nice thing put on free programs like this for the kids. There's a lot of elementary-aged kids and their parents (here), and it's really nice to see."

Saturday's event also featured a group launch to test who could fly their kite the highest in a minute, a bike raffle with bikes provided by the Kenosha Professional Police Association and a candy launch.
