EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) is inviting the community to its two public forums for local candidates who will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The forums will both begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 at the Las Cruces City Hall Council Chambers, located at 700 N. Main St.

In the Oct. 1 forum, candidates for the Doña Ana County Commission districts four and five will be in attendance, as well as candidates running for district attorney in the Third Judicial District, according to the LWVSNM.

No candidates for Doña Ana County Commission district two are available to attend, the League said.

The Oct. 8 forum will feature candidates running for New Mexico Senate, and the League hopes to also have candidates who are running for New Mexico House of Representatives, according to the LWVSNM.

"These forums will give the community a chance to learn about the candidates and hear how they stand on the issues," LWVSNM President Jo Galván Nash said. "The League is a nonpartisan organization which means we don't endorse any candidate or party, and we want to provide an equal opportunity for candidates to address a variety of questions."

Both forums are co-sponsored by the Doña Ana County chapter of the NAACP and the American Association of University Women.

According to the LWVSNM, rules on how the forums will work will be provided to candidates and the audience before each event. The event will allow candidates to speak with the audience with short opening and closing statements.

At the end of each forum, audience members can meet with the candidates.

Voters can see more candidate questions and responses at www.Vote411.org , available starting Oct. 4, according to the LWVSNM.

In addition to the extra questions, the League will be providing Voter Guides, in English and Spanish, that will be distributed throughout Doña Ana County through the Las Cruces Bulletin and Camino Real Media.

Residents can view the electronic versions of the Voter Guides on the League's website here .
