Good Samaritans helped rescue a man trapped in a car after a fiery major injury crash in the National City area on Sunday morning.

Witnesses said that a man driving a white Camaro was weaving in and out of traffic and speeding at around 7:40 a.m., before apparently losing control of the car and slamming into a palm tree on the right shoulder on the northbound 5, just south of Mile of Cars Way.

The burning engine was ejected from the car into palm trees , which then also caught fire, according to Onscene.Media .

Witnesses tried to help the man, who was trapped in the car, but were unable to extract him from the wreckage. Once emergency crews arrived, it took them twenty minutes to pull the man out of the Camaro.

He had major injuries but was conscious, and was transported to a hospital.

It is unclear whether driving under the influence was a factor in the crash.
