Michael O'Brien's Super 25 high school football rankings for Week 6
The season is five weeks old and I have a confession to make. Downers Grove North is bugging me a little bit.
The Trojans are the only team in the top five I haven't seen play, so that is part of the problem. They have have beaten O'Fallon, Downers Grove South, Glenbard West, Proviso West and Oak Park. Those teams are a combined 7-18 and only Downers Grove South has a winning record.
Downers Grove North lost to Mount Carmel in the Class 7A title game last season and was ranked No. 6 in the preseason . Owen Lansu is one of the top quarterbacks in the state. The Trojans aren't a fraud, they are just one of a handful of teams in the Super 25 I'm still a bit uncertain about.
That may change on Friday. Downers Grove North is at undefeated York in what should be a really fun showdown. That's probably the game I will cover.
It was a stable week in the rankings overall, with no movement in the top eight and no team making a major jump.
St. Francis was the most difficult decision this week. The Spartans suffered a tough, last minute loss to Providence. That's two defeats in a row for St. Francis, so they are out for now despite the win at Loyola.
Lake Forest also drops out after losing to Lake Zurich. Libertyville was an easy addition and Fremd also joins ahead of a big game against Barrington on Friday.
