Northants, Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Norfolk: Weather alert

A yellow weather warning for more rain and possible flooding has been issued for the East of England following a week of heavy downpours.

The Met Office said rain could hit areas including Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Northamptonshire and Norfolk from Monday through to 03:00 BST on Tuesday.

There is a "small chance" that some homes and businesses could be flooded and suffer power cuts.

Although there is "significant uncertainty" around the amount and location of rainfall, it said a few places could see between 60-80mm and many areas could see 20-40mm.

Parts of Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire have already been hit by flooding over the past week, with firefighters rescuing 30 people from a caravan park near Oundle.

The Met Office said Monday's rain could lead to further road closures and "difficult driving conditions", and warned there is a small chance of communities becoming cut off.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service urged people to keep up to date with the latest weather forecasts, and avoid driving through flood water.

West Northamptonshire Council has advised people to call 999 if anyone is in danger in the floodwater.

Hertfordshire County Council has issued its own warning.

A statement said: "Hertfordshire County Council and partners are warning residents of the risk of further localised flooding as weather forecasts for Sunday evening and Monday morning predict more rain to fall across the county."
