GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Another store opens its doors in the Conestoga Marketplace and it's Old Navy.

Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele cut the ribbon to welcome Old Navy into Grand Island. Shoppers were excited and poured in as doors opened Saturday morning. Mayor Steele spoke on what this means for Grand Island.

"It's just a continuing effort to revitalize what use to be the Conestoga Mall into the Conestoga Marketplace; and this just proves that our efforts to build up retail in Grand Island are working," said Steele.

Mayor Steele said even as a shopper, he's excited to have Old Navy in Grand Island, but there might be someone more excited than him.

"I've always been there like in Kansas City, Omaha and all that and it's so much fun having one in Grand Island now," said 9-year-old, Lucy Shlegel. "I want to visit like once every month or something with my mom."

Lucy bought herself a pair of boots and pants for her mom. Lucy was waiting in the parking lot at 8:30 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. Shopping at the grand opening is her birthday gift, and she turns 10 Monday. Lucy said when she's of age, she wants to work at Old Navy.
