As we begin to see the signs of transition and transformation as summer turns to fall, it's the perfect time to embrace the onset of cozy season and everything it brings. From exploring seasonal reads to participating in community events, Omaha Public Library can help you celebrate and enjoy the magic of this time of year.

Cozy up with a good story

Autumn is synonymous with curling up with a book, and OPL's shelves are stocked with fabulous reads to match the season's cozy, reflective vibe. Whether you're looking for something chilling and spooky, an inspiring memoir or a novel set against a picturesque fall landscape, you'll find something to meet your needs in OPL's collection, in a variety of formats.

If you're more drawn to stories on the big screen, you can stream a wide selection of movies, documentaries and classic films through Kanopy or check out DVDs from the library's collection.

Delve into genealogy and local history

OPL's Genealogy & Local History Room offers services all year, but Family History Month (celebrated in October) is the perfect reminder to get started. Staff can offer recommendations to point you in the right direction, and the collection of online resources available with your library card can help you fill in the gaps in your family tree and ancestral stories.

You can also connect with fellow family history enthusiasts and explore local lore at these events on the horizon, just a sample of what's happening at the Genealogy & Local History Room :

At " Tales from the Grave: Murder, Mayhem and Mourning " on Oct. 13, you'll explore creepy, mysterious and haunted happenings in Omaha and surrounding areas, virtually visiting the graves of murder victims, mysterious deaths and local legends.

Family history goes beyond names and dates; it's about solving the intricate puzzles that connect us to our ancestors. At " Stories in the Stacks " on Oct. 19, you can enjoy an evening of storytelling, researching, exploring the stacks and connecting with like-minded genealogy enthusiasts.

Whether you're at the beginning of your genealogy or local history pursuits or a seasoned researcher, you can take advantage of these opportunities to increase your knowledge and connect with others.

Savor seasonal flavors

Food, friends and family are hallmarks of the season, and OPL has resources to help you make the most of the seasonal produce and flavors when gathering with others. Browse the library's extensive collection of physical cookbooks or digital collections for inspiration on everything from cinnamon-spiced treats to hearty soups and stews that will warm you up on a cool evening.

Your OPL library card also gets you access to New York Times Cooking, a diverse collection of the world's best recipes for cooks of every level, whether you're looking for guidance on an old classic or want to attempt something totally new.

Connect with community

Fall is a season of gathering, and OPL offers many opportunities to connect with others who share your interests. You can join a book club to discuss your favorite genres or attend a Writer's Workshop to build your skills. If you want community with others while still doing your own thing — a kind of parallel play for adults — join an upcoming Out & About Reading Party . In this nontraditional book club, you bring whatever book you want and join others for an hour of silent reading. At the end of the time, you can choose to socialize with others about what you read — or not!

From fostering creativity to building community connections, your library is a resource for making the most of this beautiful season. So, grab a book, join an event, or put pen to paper — whatever your fall plans, you'll find inspiration at OPL. Discover it all at omahalibrary.org .
