Pittsburgh Steelers add another promising rookie to starting offense

M.Green29 min ago
The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to start promising rookie guard Mason McCormick against the Indianapolis Colts in his first career game. A fourth-round pick out of South Dakota State, McCormick played just 38 percent of the snaps against the Los Angeles Chargers, but that showing was enough to earn him the starting role over Spencer Anderson.

Starting left guard Isaac Seumalo was downgraded to out on Saturday after being listed as doubtful with a pectoral injury. For the first three games of the season, Anderson was the starter. However, he struggled, and Pittsburgh started a rotation as a left guard. McCormick players are the extra offensive linemen in the team's jumbo package, too.

  • BETTING:
  • With South Dakota State having a bye week, some of McCormick's Chicago friends will attend the game. His family will also travel from South Dakota. After three slow starts, the Steelers have been looking for a spark in the run game.

They started to find some success in the fourth quarter of their win over the Chargers, averaging over six yards per carry in the quarter. However, McCormick can add that juice to the room and is an excellent schematic fit for Arthur Smith's offense.

His primary match-up will be against veteran Colts defensive lineman Grover Stewart. Star Colts pass rusher DeForest Buckner is out for the game with a high ankle sprain.
