PREP VOLLEYBALL: G.W. Long falls in finals of Dothan tourney

G.W. Long went 4-2 and reached the championship of Dothan's Wolfpack Tournament Saturday at Dothan High in finishing as tournament's runner-up.

In pool play, the Rebels (24-8) beat Central-Phenix City 25-14, 25-14, lost to Rehobeth 25-12, 25-12 and beat Straughn 25-19, 25-18.

They beat Dothan 25-17, 25-23 in the bracket quarterfinals and edged Rehobeth 21-25, 25-23, 15-12 in the semifinals before losing in the championship match to Central-Phenix City 25-23, 26-28, 14-16.

Anna Claire Free earned 63 kills, three aces, eight kills and 49 digs, Brooklyn Head amassed 31 kills and 27 digs and Kaylie Joseph accumulated 29 kills, five aces, seven blocks and nine digs.

Also for the Rebels, Sawyer Hughes delivered 130 assists, seven kills, 19 digs and two aces and Kaylie Joseph contributed eight kills, three aces, six blocks and nine digs. Taylor McDaniel added 47 digs and Bea Anderson 21 digs.

Rehobeth reaches semifinals: Rehobeth reached the semifinals of the Dothan Wolfpack Tournament, going 2-2 at the tournament.

The Rebels beat Straughn 25-12, 25-12 and G.W. Long 25-12, 25-12 before losing to Central-Phenix City 25-21, 25-23 in the final pool match.

Rehobeth claimed the No. 1 seed in a tiebreaker and advanced to the bracket semifinals before losing to G.W. Long 21-25, 25-23, 15-12.

The Rebels (23-12) were lead during the day by Kryslin Martin and Emily Arnold. Martin earned 50 kills, three aces, six blocks and 55 digs, while Arnold amassed 77 assists, 11 kills, three aces, 19 digs and three blocks.

Also for Rehobeth, Kerigan Freeman had 15 kills, four aces and 15 digs, Carolyn Merrill had 16 kills and 34 digs and Payton Goodin had seven kills, five blocks and nine digs. Shelby Davis had five aces and 26 digs, Karaline Paulk had six kills, five blocks and 10 digs. Both Jessa Buker and Brailyn Werner had 22 digs with Buker also with three aces.

Providence goes 3-1: Providence Christian won all three of its pool matches but lost in the bracket semifinals to eventual tournament champion Central-Phenix City at the Dothan Wolfpack Tournament.

The Eagles beat Geneva County 25-14, 25-15, Dothan 25-23, 25-18 and Dale County 25-23, 25-5 during pool action. After a first-round bye, they lost to Central-Phenix City 25-16, 25-22 in the bracket semifinal.

For the tournament, Carlee Smith earned 19 kills and four aces, Lauren Bailey complied 18 kills, 33 digs and two aces and Laura Faulk delivered 12 aces and 78 assists. Elizabeth Ann Ingram had 14 kills, four aces and five solo blocks, while Dantzler Dowling had 18 kills and five aces and Jane Claire Mobley had 14 kills. Addison Russ added 28 digs.

Dothan goes 2-2: Dothan went 2-2 at the Dothan Wolfpack Tournament, including 2-1 in pool play.

The Wolves beat Dale County 25-19, 25-15, lost to Providence Christian 25-23, 25-17 and beat Geneva County 25-12, 25-12. They lost to G.W. Long in bracket play, 25-17, 25-23.

During the three pool matches, Catherine Farmer had 50 assists, Maggie Benton had 16 kills, seven digs and four blocks and Mary Beth Arnold had 25 kills and four aces. Kara Lucas had 14 kills, five aces and six digs and Brantlee McCarthy had eight kills, five aces and two digs.

Dale County goes 0-4: Dale County lost all four matches at the Dothan Wolfpack Tournament.

The Warriors lost to Dothan 25-19, 25-15, to Geneva County 14-25, 25-19, 25-13, to Providence Christian 25-23, 25-5 and to Straughn 25-18, 25-17.

For the tournament, Karoline Killingsworth had nine aces and six assists, Kailyn David had four aces, three kills, six blocks and five digs and Shayleigh Whitman had four aces, three kills and four digs.

Also for Dale County, Jas Smith had four kills and 15 blocks, Leah Grace Snellgrove had five blocks and Jazmin Citlahua four digs.

Opp runner-up at its tournament

Opp went 4-1 and finished runner-up at the Heather Bryan Tournament in Opp on Saturday.

The Bobcats won all three of their pool matches, beating Brantley 25-13, 23-25, 15-9, Charles Henderson 25-6, 25-11 and Zion Chapel 25-6, 25-12. They then beat Luverne 25-4, 25-10 in the semifinals before losing in the finals to T.R. Miller 25-16, 25-22.

Opp (18-8) was led by Madie Wilson with 10 aces, 73 assists and seven digs and Carreline Spears with 47 kills, four aces and 33 digs. Braleigh Nall amassed 16 kills and three blocks, while both Ada Blackstock and CB Johnson had 14 kills with Blackstock also earning three aces and seven digs.

Also for Opp, Chloe Bentley had seven aces and seven kills, Crislyn Birge two aces and 49 digs, Shelby Greenacre had two aces and 26 digs and LaTasia Coleman had 12 digs.

Regular Season

Wiregrass Kings win two: The Wiregrass Kings won a pair of matches over the East Central Patriots on Saturday in Trussville.

The Kings won the first match 25-23, 10-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-4. They took the second match by a 25-8, 25-8, 25-17 score.

Becca Wise had 22 kills, nine aces, four assists and 10 digs, Janie Waddell had 17 kills, four aces and 12 digs and Jessie Tedder had 36 assists and five aces. Avery Wilson had six aces, nine kills, four blocks and three digs and Ellie Alford had five aces, three assists and seven digs. Josie Duren had two assists and six digs in the second match.

Junior Varsity

G.W. Long finishes runner-up: G.W. Long's junior varsity went 3-1 in round-robin action to finish as the Dothan Wolfpack Tournament runner-up to Central of Phenix City.

The Rebels beat New Brockton 25-12, 25-12, lost to Central-Phenix City 25-21, 25-20 before beating Dothan 25-13, 25-9 and Providence Christian 25-21, 25-22.

PCS goes 2-2: The Providence Christian JV team went 2-2 at the Dothan Wolfpack Tournament.

The Eagles beat Dothan 25-20, 25-23 and New Brockton 25-20, 25-19 and lost to Central-Phenix City 21-25, 25-10, 15-3 and to G.W. Long 25-21, 25-22.

For the day, Caydee Smith had five assists and 43 digs, Maralee Price five aces, four kills and 30 digs and Sarah Reed nine kills, three assists, six blocks and 10 digs. Also, Natalie Kirk had 11 kills and 19 digs, Hadley Wade had five aces, eight kills and 32 digs and Harper Cox had 23 assists, five kills, three aces, 20 digs and three solos blocks.

Ava Johnson added five aces and 11 digs, Emma Duke had 10 kills, five digs and five solo blocks and Paige Smoak had three aces and five kills.

Regular Season

Wiregrass Kings win two: The Wiregrass Kings defeated East Central twice on Saturday, winning 25-17, 25-18 in the first match and 25-22, 25-13 in the second match.

Overall, Paige McAllister had six aces and three kills, Avery Barnes five aces and six kills, Avery Wilson six aces, seven kills and seven digs and Josie Duren 16 assists and five digs.
