Ann Friederichs gets SBDC award

Ann Friederichs, director of the Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Western Illinois University, has been named a recipient of the 2024 SBDC State Star Award for Illinois. The State Star Award recognizes top performers in the SBDC network who demonstrate exemplary service, dedication and success in helping small businesses thrive, according to a news release.

Friederichs expressed her gratitude and emphasized the collective effort behind the recognition.

"While my name is on the award, this is truly an SBDC WIU Center award," Friederichs said in the release. "We could not do what we do without the support of Interim President Kristi Mindrup, Chris Merrett, Sandy Whittig, Erin Wherley and all of WIU Sponsored Projects, Shannon Sutton, Kari and Allison and my colleagues, Maria Ramos and Carrie Kessler. I am forever grateful."

Under Friederichs' leadership, the WIU SBDC has made strides in assisting local entrepreneurs and small-business owners, enhancing economic development and providing resources across the region.
