Quarryville Council swears in junior council member

A.Wilson1 hr ago

When: Quarryville Council meeting, Sept. 3.

What happened: Fifteen-year-old Parker Boos was sworn in as the new junior council member.

Background: The Pennsylvania State Boroughs Association has guidelines for a junior council member position, Borough Manager Scott Peiffer said after the meeting. Council approved the addition of a junior council member about two years ago, but the borough could not find an interested student.

Quotable: "He's a fine young man," Peiffer said. "I'm glad we found him."

Details: Boos is home schooled and is a resident of Quarryville Borough. He will sit with council at meetings and may comment on issues, but he has no vote and may not attend executive sessions.

Fingerprint services: Council set a $20 fee for non-residents to have their fingerprints taken by the police department. Residents may still request fingerprints at no charge. For an appointment, individuals can contact the borough office or call the police non-emergency number.
