Road closures in Salisbury for final phase of improvement work

A.Smith56 min ago
Two roads in Salisbury are set to be closed whilst ongoing improvement work is carried out.

South Western Road will be shut overnight for two weeks from 19:30 to 06:00 BST, starting on Monday.

Fisherton Street will also be closed overnight for one week between the junction with South Western Road and Summerlock Approach.

It is part of the ongoing Fisherton Gateway project which includes widening pavements, new street lighting and enhanced landscaping.

The scheme is part of Wiltshire Council's £9m investment from the government's Future High Streets Fund, which is split between three projects.

Fisherton Gateway was allocated £3.2m, while Salisbury Station Forecourt was given £5.3m. The remaining £800,000 will be used for Heritage Living; a project to redevelop a vacant listed building as apartments.

Councillor Richard Clewer, leader of Wiltshire Council, said: "These overnight works represent the final significant phase of the Fisherton Gateway enhancements.

"We recognise the closures will cause some disruption and we are doing everything we can to minimise this as much as possible."

Work began in August 2023 and is expected to be finished by mid-October.
