Robert Irwin and his mother Terri steal the show as they appear as close as ever at the Cirque du Soleil premiere in Brisbane

Robert Irwin looked every inch the doting son on Thursday when he stepped out with his mother Terri in Brisbane .

The pair attended the premiere of Cirque du Soleil's new show Luiza and looked chuffed to be in each other's company for the glittering evening.

Robert, who is the co-host of I'm A Celebrity ... Australia!, looked dapper in a plain white T-shirt underneath a light grey sports coat and matching pants.

The conservationist, 21, who is very close with his family, finished his outfit with a pair of plain white sneakers.

Meanwhile, his momager Terri, 60, looked effortlessly stylish in a flowing red and black patterned dress for the evening out.

Terri - who shares Robert and daughter Bindi, 26, with the late Steve Irwin - also wore a pair of black heels and chose to leave her long locks down for the occasion.

A source who attended the event told Daily Mail Australia that the celebrity pair's arrival caused quite the stir as fans were thrilled to see them together.

'The event was abuzz with Teri Irwin and Robert Irwin taking to the red carpet,' the source revealed.

'You knew someone exciting had arrived by the way people stopped talking and started gawking.'

'It was a sight to be seen as they parted the crowds to get to and from their seats.'

Before taking them off at the photo wall, the source also said the safety-conscious pair arrived at the event wearing matching black and white face masks.

'They were the only ones to be wearing the medical masks - it almost made them stand out more. It certainly wasn't to hide their identity,' the source said.

'We had to double take to realise it was Terri. A lot of people thought that. They are joined at the hip.'

The source added that the pair were given the royal treatment, being escorted into the venue by security guards, who sat with them during the performance.

'It's no wonder Americans talk of the Irwins as Australia's own Royal Family,' they said. 'They act like Prince William and Princess Kate.'

Robert does not shy away from making his close bond with his beloved mother Terri known and the pair often jet off on work trips together.

Terri is also often seen with Robert at red carpet events and their joint public appearances have increased since Robert's split from girlfriend Rorie Buckey in February.

She also accompanied Robert to South Africa and was on set while he filmed I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! this year.

Robert also invited Bindi and his two-year-old niece Grace Warrior - who his sister shares with Chandler Powell - to join him while filming.

He was recently forced to hit back at fans' claims that his mother Terri was a 'helicopter parent' and that it was 'creepy' they spend so much time together.

Robert explained that he has an extremely close bond with his family following the loss of his famous father Steve Irwin.

Steve died on September 4, 2006, at the age of 44 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.

Robert was just two years and nine months old at the time, while his sister Bindi was eight.

'I think loss brings a family together like nothing else... people forget [that],' Robert said during an interview on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday.

'I think when we lost dad, our little tight-knit family unit became incredibly tight. And we travel with the whole family everywhere most of the time. It's nice.'
