Firefighters put out a railroad fire that halted train service through Pismo Beach on Sunday morning.

Cal Fire posted on X it was on the scene of a fire involving "railroad ties" on the Union Pacific Railroad east of Pismo Beach as of 7:30 a.m.

"Union Pacific has been advised and dispatching personnel," the post said.

The fire was reported at 6:35 a.m. at Price Canyon and Thousand Hills roads, according to emergency response scanner PulsePoint.

Josh Taylor, deputy chief of Cal Fire SLO, said the cause of the fire was unknown and that Union Pacific was still on the scene as of 10 a.m. Sunday.

"Union Pacific is on scene now, they shut trains down," Taylor said. "They had to replace the railroad ties that burned and they extinguished the fire."

Union Pacific could not be reached for immediate comment.
