Trump can’t stop lying: Here’s the latest claim on those ‘Venezuelan killers’ coming to your town

As he tries to convince Americans that the Midwest is being overtaken by occupying gangs armed with automatic weapons that even the world's most advanced and most powerful American military hasn't seen, former president Donald Trump is telling racist, scare-mongering lies that grow darker as election day approaches.

It's not enough to knowingly lie about Haitian immigrants eating neighbors' dogs and cats, or to lie that Aurora, Colorado has been seized by armed thugs (the police chief says the claim is bunk), now Trump is insisting that "petrified" police and sheriffs in "hundreds" of little towns in America are cowering in their jails and offices, afraid to confront the imaginary gangs roving their streets.

And he tells these lies, Trump's MAGA fans cheer — while police unions, with members depicted by Trump as cowards, hand over their endorsements — to a convicted felon.

"You're talking about areas of the Midwest where they're becoming famous because they're being occupied, and this is hundreds of little cities and little towns," Trump said at a Wisconsin rally on Saturday. "They're petrified, and their law enforcement is petrified. You have a sheriff and a deputy, or you have a small group, and you'll have a group of Venezuelan killers street gangs occupying the town with MK-47s.

"I know that gun very well. I got to know it very well. I've become an expert on guns quickly. My son's know guns. They couldn't believe what the story they heard — the two stories they heard, actually. But I don't care, because we're doing it for you. We're going to make our I don't care. I just say we got to do it."

So, Trump's sons heard two stories — about of towns? How does that math work exactly? And (as far as we can tell) media members covering the campaign (we're looking at you, New York Times ) haven't asked Trump to name these towns.

In the meantime, it's only fair to wonder: In the MAGA world of crazy Facebook falsehoods , will Trump supporters be too frightened to come out of their rabbit holes to vote in November?

Trump first insisted that an Aurora apartment complex had been bought and taken over by gang members who were collecting rent. Later, Trump expanded the lie to say the entire city was being run by gangs.

But the police chief debunked the claim , saying that while Aurora has gang members — like many cities — they are not in control of the complex, nor are the collecting rent.

It's been a weekend of lies for Trump: On Friday in Michigan, he again claimed that he was named Man of the Year during a rambling non-answer on how he would assure auto manufacturing jobs remained in Michigan.

Vice President Kamala Harris has labeled Trump "one of the biggest losers" on manufacturing jobs, pointing out that nearly 200,000 American manufacturing jobs were lost during Trump's administration from 2017-2021.
