Ex-police officer wins £1.1m after discrimination

A former police officer has been handed more than £1m in compensation after it was ruled she had been discriminated against.

Katrina Hibbert was a safeguarding sergeant with Thames Valley Police (TVP) , working with victims of child sexual and drug exploitation in Cherwell and West Oxfordshire.

She had started a party and events business as a "positive outlet" to help her cope with the stress of her job, a tribunal heard.

But she resigned from the force after it withdrew permission for her to run the business while she was off sick, which a judge found to be "discrimination arising from her disability".

British Airways cancels summer flights from UK airport

British Airways has cancelled all its flights from a UK city airport next summer.

The airline said in a statement it was "suspending our summer 2025 operations from Southampton Airport" .

It did not give a reason behind the decision.

An airport spokesperson said the move was "clearly disappointing".

Mystery surrounds toad found in supermarket salad

Experts are trying to establish the origin of a toad found in a supermarket bag of salad .

Graham Martin of Berkshire Reptile Rescue said he had been asked to collect the creature by staff at Waitrose distribution centre in Bracknell.

He said since collecting it on Monday, he had been keeping the toad in isolation because it was not clear whether it had come from overseas.

A spokesperson for John Lewis Partnership said: "There is a stringent sorting and washing process which should have removed this toad."

Terminally ill grandad enjoys dream Spitfire flight

An 88-year-old grandad who has been given less than a year to live has fulfilled his childhood dream of flying in a Spitfire.

Brian Fox, who lives in the New Forest, has been diagnosed with stage four oesophageal cancer and created a bucket list - with taking to the skies in the iconic fighter at the very top.

The dream was fulfilled when he was able to take part in an Aero Legends Spitfire experience from Compton Abbas airfield in north Dorset.

Mr Fox said the flight had been "exhilarating, unforgettable and wonderful".

Sting among Isle of Wight Festival headliners

Sting, Justin Timberlake and Stereophonics have been unveiled as the headliners for next year's Isle of Wight festival .

The event will run from 19 - 22 June at Seaclose Park in Newport.

English electronic groups Faithless and Clean Bandit, Irish rock band The Script and US singer-songwriter Teddy Swims have also announced in the line-up.

Former Police frontman Sting will perform on the Friday night as part of his world tour.
