Sep. 27—A Decatur-based disaster relief response organization is preparing to respond to damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Project Unify, a Decatur-based Churches of Christ Evangelistic Disaster Relief organization, is collecting items at Decatur Church of Christ, 2833 Danville Road S.W.

Needed items include generators, Stihl chainsaws, flashlights, lanterns and batteries.

"Power is going to be out for folks for a long time. If we can keep their refrigerators running to keep their stuff safe, that will be huge. We are going to be needing to put powers and lights in a lot of areas, all the way up through Georgia and possibly South Carolina," Cody Michael with Project Unify said on Facebook.

The organization also asked for financial support and prayer.

"The most important need we have is prayer. Just keep these folks in these prayers. Keep us in your prayers. Keep the efforts being made in your prayers," Michael said. "God's blessed us so we can bless others."
