James Corden would have a field day over this.

While promoting their new film Gladiator II in Japan, stars Paul Mescal and Fred Hechinger got in on some drunken karaoke fun.

"I've walked myself into a corner with this because when I was doing press for Aftersun, I was like, 'I hate karaoke. I hate karaoke,' but I got roped into doing it, and I enjoyed it," Mescal admitted speaking to Variety at the film's Los Angeles premiere on Monday.

When asked what song he sang, he replied that he did his own rendition of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb." Is he a big fan of Cyrus'? "Yeah, I mean, who's not?" he added.

As for whether or not he did the song and its high notes justice, Mescal laughed, "Of course not. I was drunk. It was great. It's not about that — it's about the spirit."

Mescal wasn't alone in his drunken karaoke, apparently. It's unclear exactly who was there, but Hechinger admitted he was part of the festivities. "I partook in that as well," Hechinger told the outlet of "The Climb" performance, while also revealing that his additional song of choice was Shania Twain's "You're Still the One." He added, "I think karaoke is built for people who don't have voices. I think if you have too good of a voice, it's embarrassing for you to do karaoke."

Mescal also opened up about the funny memory at the film's London premiere in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight . "Karaoke's not my go-to generally," he told the outlet. "I feel like I was caught in a very vulnerable moment, but happy I did it, and on a side note, I've got the most incredible people around me and my friends and my team and we've got Aiden from Paramount documenting the whole thing, so it's been great."

Mescal and Hechinger and the rest of the Gladiator II cast and crew are deep in the throes of a worldwide press tour for the film, which is the hotly anticipated sequel to 2000's Best Picture-winning Gladiator.

The Ridley Scott -helmed sequel follows Mescal's Lucius after he's captured from his home in Numidia — where his mother, Lucilla, had sent him for protection — by General Acacius ( Pedro Pascal ) and taken to Rome, where he first seeks revenge but eventually hopes to restore the glory of Rome to its people. Hechinger and Joseph Quinn play twin maniacal emperors Caracalla and Geta, respectively.
