1 arrested, 1 hospitalized after Akron shooting, police say

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Akron police said one man is under arrest and another is hospitalized after a shooting Thursday night.

Officers said they were called to investigate a shooting around 10 p.m. in the area of West Waterloo Road and Nesmith Lake Boulevard.

The suspect had remained on scene, according to police, and was immediately arrested.

Officers said Ryan Schafer, 31, is charged with felonious assault.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was rushed to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, according to police.

He had surgery there, and remains in serious condition.

Police did not release information about what led up to the shooting.

Officers said Schafer is locked up in the Summit County Jail.

The shooting remains under investigation.
