URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The University of Illinois System Board of Trustees approved a multi-billion-dollar budget on Thursday.

After another year of record enrollment, the school will focus more of their spending on increases in faculty and other support, mental health resources, programs that keep students on track for graduation, and technology improvements and facilities upgrades across the U of I System.

Saturday's vote finalized the Fiscal Year 2025 plan that was approved in May. This plan was pending the General Assembly's approval of the state budget. The state budgeted over $700 million for the U of I system. This was a 1.8% increase from last year.

"The University of Illinois System and our three universities are contributing to the state economy on a number of levels, and we are partnering with government, industry and the nonprofit sector to enhance our efforts to the benefit of every Illinois citizen," U of I System President Tim Killeen said. "We are committed to providing a world-class education to state residents."

In the past 10 years, the U of I System has worked to freeze resident undergraduate tuition and increase financial aid. Two-thirds of undergraduates receive financial aid, and more than half of the undergraduate students pay less than $6,000 in tuition a year.
