3 charged in connection to shooting of 17-year-old, police chase in Montgomery Village

GAITHERSBURG, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Police said three people are facing charges including a teen in connection to the shooting of a 17-year-old in Montgomery Village.

The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said on Thursday, Nov. 7 around 5 p.m., officers were patrolling the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle when they noticed a gray Honda Odyssey parked in front of an apartment building.

That's when police noticed three people get out of the minivan and enter the building.

Shortly after, police said one of the suspects shot a 17-year-old boy in the building before fleeing the area in the van.

The police department said officers began helping the teen until medics arrived. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As the investigation continued, officers tried to pull over the Honda, but the driver did not stop. During the chase, the Honda continued driving erratically through several neighborhoods and then continued onto Interstate 270.

MCPD said the chase continued to the area of Longdraft and Clopper Roads, where the suspects got out of the Honda and ran.

In response, officers set up a perimeter and with the assistance of K-9 Units, all three suspects; 20-year-old Terrence Stover, of Germantown, 19-year-old Tyriq Roberts Hawkins, of Germantown, and a 16-year-old male of Olney, were taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing unit.

Police said they were charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.

The 16-year-old was charged as an adult.

The group is being held without bond.
