2 charged in murder of postal worker in Warren

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Two men are charged with the murder of a postal worker in Warren.

A federal indictment unsealed Thursday charges Kaprise Sledge, 24, of Warren, and Thomas Sledge, 44, of Youngstown, with the March 2, 2024 shooting death of Jont'e Davis.

Kaprise Sledge and Thomas Sledge are each charged with one count of murder of an officer and employee of the United States and one count of discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

The shooting happened in the area of Washington Street and Olive Avenue. When officers arrived to the area, they found Davis suffering from a gunshot wound. Davis had been shot while inside his U.S. postal van. Emergency responders performed life-saving measures on the scene and Davis was transported to Trumbull Regional Medical Center, where he later died as a result of his wounds.

The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) is investigating the case. The Warren Police Department, Trumbull County Action Group Drug Task Force, FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and Trumbull County Emergency Management also assisted in this investigation.
