DANBURY, CT — Two people were killed in an apparent murder-suicide at an apartment, where a toddler was also found uninjured Monday morning in Danbury, according to police.

Police responded to an apartment on Griffing Avenue around 7:35 a.m. on the report of a possible suicide, according to Detective Capt. Mark Williams.

The Danbury Fire Department and EMS were already at the scene when police arrived.

Fire and EMS personnel entered the apartment and found two deceased adults, a 21-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, according to Williams.

Williams said a toddler who didn’t appear to be injured was also found at the scene. The toddler was taken to Danbury Hospital for evaluation “out of caution,” and an examination found “no apparent injury,” according to Williams.

“During the process of investigating the incident, based on the scene of the incident and findings by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, it appears the adult male killed the adult female before taking his own life,” Williams wrote in a news release. “As the two were in a domestic relationship, this is an example of domestic violence of the worst kind. The cause of death for both deceased appears to be wounds inflicted with a large kitchen knife.”

Police also referenced residents to the Center for Empowerment and Education , 2 West St. in Danbury, for awareness, resources, and education related to domestic violence.
