3 dozen Centex marching bands move on to area
Thirty-six marching bands from around Central Texas advanced in UIL marching competition after earning top ratings at the Region 8 marching contests held last week.
Those schools have advanced to the area marching contests, to be held this Saturday for Classes 3A/5A and Nov. 2 for Classes 2A/4A/6A. Area winners will advance to state.
The regional contest for Classes 2A/1A will be held Wednesday at Riesel High School, with 21 bands scheduled to compete.
Bands are evaluated at the contests by three judges and assigned a rating number from 1, "Superior," to 5, "Poor." Groups receiving at least two out of three 1s are awarded a Division 1 rating and advance.
The UIL area contests for local schools will be held Saturday for Classes 3A and 5A at Robinson High School and Pflugerville High School, respectively; and Nov. 2 for Classes 2A, 4A and 6A, at Groesbeck High School, Collins High School in Denton and Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, respectively.
The UIL state marching contest will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Nov. 4-6 for Classes 1A/3A/5A; and Nov. 11-13 for Classes 2A/4A/6A.
