2 Fort Walton Beach parks under water quality advisory after poor test results

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Two locations in Fort Walton Beach are under water quality advisories following poor test results, according to the Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County.

The following locations are currently under water quality advisory for Enterococcus bacteria:

  • Garniers Beach Park (257 Beachview Dr. NE, Fort Walton Beach, FL)

  • Liza Jackson Park (338 Miracle Strip Pkwy SW, Fort Walton Beach, FL)

  • The advisory comes after testing was conducted at both locations came back with poor results .

    Florida Department of Health's Healthy Beaches website explains that poor test results mean that 70.5 or greater Enterococcus sp was found per 100 ml of marine water. Good test results mean that 0-35.4 Enterococcus sp was found per 100 ml of marine water.

    According to Web MD , Enterococcus bacteria are found in the intestines of animals and can cause infections that are often difficult to treat.
