Prescott Valley police believe three deaths discovered after a house fire on Thursday were the result of a double homicide and suicide, according to a police statement released Friday.

The fire, reported Thursday morning near Navajo Road and State Route 69, revealed the bodies of two women, ages 57 and 54, and a 52-year-old man.

Police said that in addition to the report of the fire, authorities were also told of a woman screaming for help and sounds of gunfire.

When officers and fire crews first arrived, they took defensive positions, and after hearing no gunshots, they began to combat the fire, police said.

Investigators found that the women had been shot multiple times and the man had been shot once, according to police.

Police did not identify the people found dead in the home.

Police also said the investigation did not reveal any other suspects outside of those found inside the home, but the investigation was ongoing.
