KUTZTOWN – The Wyoming Valley Conference enjoyed an all-time high on
Saturday night when the Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches
Association announced its all-state and academic all-state squads.

Forty-five WVC players made the lists, the most in one season. Among the
eye-catching numbers:
Twelve players were named first team all-state.

Twelve players were named to the second team.

Eight players were named honorable mention.

Twenty-two players were named academic all-state.

Nine players made all-state and academic all-state.

To be nominated for all-state honors, a player’s coach had to be a member
of the association. A player then had to meet eligibility requirements.

The all-state squad was picked by a committee, while the academic list was
open to seniors who met grade requirements (an average of 92 or 3.5 or
better).

Leading the all-state parade were four individuals who were first-team
selections for the second consecutive year. Wyoming Valley West’s April
Fronzoni and Haley Dervinis were first-team picks again in Class 3A, and
Lake-Lehman’s Janelle Perlis and Crestwood’s Sara Silvetti were repeat
first-team selections in Class 2A.

Fronzoni (sr., forward), Perlis (sr., forward) and Silvetti (sr., midfield)
were named All-Americans earlier in the month, and Dervinis (sr., midfield)
was named to the all-Mideast Regional team.

Fronzoni and Dervinis were among four first-team selections in Class 3A for
Valley West. Sisters Lauren and Jillian Thomas (jr., midfielder) also were
named first team. Lauren (sr., goalie) was a second-team pick in 1998.

The Spartans ended up with seven players on the Class 3A list, after
finishing 22-3 and reaching the state semifinals. Amy Krysiewski (jr.,
forward) was named second team, and Kim Tranell (sr., midfield) and Jill
Rosick (so., forward) were honorable mention. Tranell and Dervinis also were
named to the all-academic list.

Crestwood, which won the Class 2A state title, was rewarded with three
first-team picks and eight overall. In addition to Silvetti, Lindsey Rice
(jr., sweep) and Marie Zorzi (so., forward) were first-team picks.

Falan Glynn (sr., goalie), Kate Ruda (sr., forward) and Jen Sawicki (jr.,
forward) were second-team picks for the Comets, and Missy Farrand (jr.,
forward) and Kathleen Johnson (jr., defense) were named honorable mention.
Silvetti, Glynn and Ruda also were named to the academic squad.

Lake-Lehman had two first-team picks in Class 2A, along with six others who
received statewide recognition.

Perlis and Rachel Kasper (sr., midfield) made the first team for the Black
Knights, who won the WVC title this season and their fifth consecutive
District 2 Class 2A title. Alyson Bevan (jr., forward), Melissa DeCesaris
(sr., forward) and Janel Janiczek (jr., goalie) were second-team picks, and
Lindsay Boris (jr., midfielder) and Terri Peiffer (jr., forward) were
honorable mention. Perlis and Marielle Narkiewicz were on the academic list.

Wyoming Seminary landed two players on the Class 2A first team and two more
on the second. Molly Conway (sr., defense) and Lauren Powley (so., midfield)
made first team, and Alana Anzalone (sr., forward) and Ashley Feldman made
second team. Feldman and Kristin Kolesar were named to the academic list.
