The State Journal/WiscNews will recognize the accomplishments of five girls golfers from our coverage area each week.

The efforts may not be the greatest statistically but are notable. We then invite readers to vote for the Supernova, the performance that most stood out to you.

Here are this week's honorees.

Baraboo's Hailey Huebsch takes top spot

Baraboo senior Hailey Huebsch had a birdie and three pars as she shot a 43, tying herself with teammate junior Kyran Merrell for the best score against Stoughton on Sept. 11.

Huebsch birdied hole 6 at Coachman's Golf Resort in Stoughton.

"Everything connected with Hailey at the dual versus Stoughton," Baraboo coach Emilee Schultz said. "Her birdie was the cherry on top that made that day exciting. Her putting was what stood out. She was able to read and execute putts. It was fun to watch her play and for her game to come together."

Against Reedsburg on Monday, Huebsch took second with a 53 at Baraboo Country Club.

Madison West's Ezabell Yu dominates Big Eight

Madison West sophomore Ezabell Yu has won every Big Eight Conference match this season according to coach Emily Nault.

When Madison East hosted a conference match at Yahara Hills on Monday, Yu scored an 82, five strokes over Janesville Craig senior Brynn Sikich's 87 for the top spot.

Yu birdied hole 12 and five of her eight pars were in the front nine.

"Her tee shots were all in play and she has strong approach shots, especially with her wedges," Nault said.

Middleton's Emily Utter earns top 3 finish

Middleton senior Emily Utter took third at the Janesville Parker Invite on Sept. 14 when she shot an 80 alongside teammate, senior Maddy Wilcox.

The front nine wasn't the best with six bogeys and one double bogey, but on the back nine, she birdied hole 12 and have seven pars.

"She birdied hole 12 after have a great tee shot onto the green," Middleton coach Becky Halverson said. "She was hitting the ball very solid and made some nice putts."

The Cardinals hosted Madison Memorial and Sun Prairie West on Sept. 16, and Utter shot an 82 for a tie at second place with teammate junior Sydney Weiss at Pleasant View Golf Course. She had six pars and birdied hope 14.

"That is a great confidence booster for Emily going into the later part of our season," Halverson said.

Mia Burchette stays hot for McFarland

McFarland junior Mia Burchette bested Portage senior Ally Saloun's 47 by two strokes when the Spartans and Warriors matched up on Sept. 12 at Portage Golf Club.

Burchette had four pars and a pair of bogeys for the best score of the match.

Facing Mount Horeb on Monday, Burchette shot a 43 for second place at Norsk Golf Club. She finished with two birdies and a par.

"Recently, she's been pulling the ball especially off the tee and this has caused her to get into some trouble," McFarland coach Chris Duerk said. "We've talked about her not rushing her swing and slowing things down. This seems to have helped. When you put yourself in a good position off the tee, the game is a lot easier from there."

Ally Saloun fares well against Badger Small foes

Saloun took second place with a 47 when Portage faced McFarland at Portage Golf Club on Sept. 12.

She finished with two pars and five bogeys on the day.

"She had a pretty good day overall," Portage coach Maddison Williams said. "Everything was clicking and coming together well. She got her swing back to where we like it, so she was a lot more consistent."

Against Stoughton, Saloun finished fourth with a 49, getting two more pars on the front nine.

"Pars are always huge for Ally," Williams said. "She gets excited about them and it really puts her in the right mindset and (has) her playing well. She really has done a 180 in the last few meets."
