Bloomfield Township is proud to announce that it has once again achieved Bronze Level Certification from Sustainable Jersey, marking the fifth time the township has received this prestigious designation since 2009. With this certification, Bloomfield maintains its Bronze Level status for the next three years, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and environmental leadership.

"We are incredibly proud to once again receive Bronze Level Certification from Sustainable Jersey," said Mayor Ted Gamble. "This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our township and Greener Bloomfield, in prioritizing sustainability and environmental stewardship. We look forward to continuing our efforts to create a greener, more sustainable community for our residents."

In addition to recognizing Bloomfield's commitment to sustainability, this certification opens the door to increased grant opportunities, which will support future green projects. Projects like the $20,000 grant received earlier this year from Sustainable Jersey to convert the dormant property on Clinton Street into a tree farm that will remove impervious asphalt and allow the property to better absorb water runoff in order to reduce flooding in the immediate area.

"Sustainability is not a one-time effort, it's a continuous commitment to improving our community and protecting our environment for future generations," said Councilman Nicholas Joanow, a major advocate for environmental initiatives in Bloomfield. "This certification reflects Bloomfield's ongoing dedication to green initiatives, and I'm proud of the steps we've taken as a township. But there's always more to be done, and I encourage all residents to get involved and help shape a more sustainable future for Bloomfield."

Mollie Smith, Greener Bloomfield's Coordinator, emphasized the collaborative nature of the township's sustainability efforts. "This certification is a testament to the ongoing dedication and teamwork among many people in our community, from our elected leadership to our township administration to our boards and commissions and grass-roots volunteer groups. Further, it demonstrates all of our commitment to creating a sustainable future. Greener Bloomfield looks forward to continuing to help grow these efforts throughout our town and we encourage others to get involved whenever possible."

Sustainable Jersey certification is a voluntary program, recognized across the state as a significant achievement for municipal governments. The designation is awarded to municipalities that demonstrate leadership in environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and green initiatives. Communities that earn this certification are viewed by their peers, state government officials, and civic organizations as leading examples of forward-thinking, environmentally conscious governance.

Bloomfield remains committed to its long-standing goals of promoting sustainable practices and improving the quality of life for its residents through green initiatives.
