1 killed, dozens displaced in Woodstock apartment fire

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – One person was killed, two were injured and more than 30 people were displaced after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Woodstock.

Emergency crews were called to the two-story apartment building in the 700 block of St John's Road around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Neighbors say the fire spread quickly.

Fire officials said three people were transported to area hospitals. One person was rushed in critical condition, and was pronounced dead.

The other two had minor smoke inhalation.

Initial reports were of people trapped in the building. According to officials, they are now all accounted for.

Fire officials say 12 of 24 units sustained significant damaged.

No firefighters suffered injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
