2 men charged in homicide of 26-year-old shot to death in Durham

Durham police have charged and arrested two men in the April homicide of 26-year-old Charles Parker Jr.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on April 19, officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound on Miami Boulevard and found Parker. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Jamar Beulah, 27, has been charged with second-degree murder, and Jaylen Steele, 24, has been charged with accessory after the fact (second-degree murder). They were being held as of Friday morning in the Durham County jail without bail.

Beulah has other charges pending, including possession of a firearm by a felon and robbery with a dangerous weapon connected to a May 12 robbery at a convenience store on West Chapel Hill Street, according to court records.

As of Sept. 14, there had been 27 homicides in Durham this year, police statistics show That is down from 32 and 31 homicides reported by the same time in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
