MILFORD, CT — If you're like many of your Milford neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday , which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Milford area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  • Rape Crisis Center of Milford provides support and a voice for victims of sexual assault and misconduct and to prevent future instances through education.
  • Milford United Way addresses the needs of the poor and the elderly, of children and families, including those who face significant physical or psychological challenges.
  • The Beth-El Center's mission is to extend dignity and respect to all individuals and families while connecting them to housing, food and services within their communities.
  • The Kennedy Collective provides Support Services and builds Business Enterprises that prove people with disabilities bring tangible value.
  • The Storehouse Project, Inc. is a faith-based organization that exists to meet basic human needs by providing a safe and secure environment in which individuals are able to access a collaborative network of resources and services.
