Eight puppies are on the mend after a horrifying situation involving a car in California. Last week, the five-week-old Shepherd dogs were found under a burning car in Palmdale, according to NBC 7 . Per the outlet, the infant animals were located by firefighters who responded to a call about the vehicle in flames. Instead of being rehomed to an animal shelter, the pups were sent to the Best Friends Animal Society , where they received life-saving care, per NBC 7. Now, two of the dogs — Whip and Wheely — are currently in the neonatal nursery at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in West Los Angeles, according to the organization. "When Best Friends heard from the Palmdale Animal Shelter about these puppies, we knew bringing them into our program was crucial for their wellbeing," Brittany Thorn, Executive Director of Best Friends Animal Shelter, tells PEOPLE in a statement. "By being able to provide them with lifesaving care at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in West L.A., as well as in loving foster homes, these puppies will overcome their humble beginning and go on to live healthy and happy lives."
