DETROIT — Three young men are facing charges in connection with the shooting death of an Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy earlier this summer, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Bradley J. Reckling, 30, was working undercover in the area of Park Grove and Schoenherr streets in Detroit on June 22 when he was shot to death, according to police.

Ramon DeBose, 18, of Clinton Township was charged with murder of a police officer, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, carjacking, conducting a criminal enterprise, four counts of carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of felony firearm.

If convicted on the murder charge, he faces up to life in prison without parole and up to at least 60 years in prison if convicted on the other charges.

Two others, 18-year-old Marquis Goins of Detroit and 18-year-old Karim Moore of Clinton Township, were charged with accessory after the fact to a felony, receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, carjacking, conducting a criminal enterprise and various weapons charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

If they are convicted on the carjacking charge, they face up to life in prison and up to 44 years in prison for the other charges.

They were all scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Prosecutors said the teens were part of a car theft ring that spanned Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. The group was responsible for at least four carjackings, four additional stolen vehicles and eight counts of carrying weapons in vehicles starting in November 2023, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said additional charges in connection to the car theft ring are possible.

Officials said Reckling was among three auto theft unit deputies following a stolen Chevy Equinox that was taken from the Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights sometime between 1 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on June 22.

As Reckling followed the SUV at 10:50 p.m. that night, prosecutors said DeBose grabbed a handgun and fired multiple shots from the stolen SUV, striking Reckling in the head and chest multiple times, killing him, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Goins and Moore were also inside the SUV when DeBose fired the shots.

The three teens then ran away from the SUV before they were eventually caught roughly three blocks away on a porch of a Detroit home of someone they didn't know, according to prosecutors.

Investigators also found two guns and gloves while searching for the teens.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard called the shooting "an ambush."

Reckling leaves behind a pregnant wife and three daughters, ages 5, 4, and 1, according to the sheriff's office.

Reckling was hired in April 2015 and was assigned to the Rochester Hills substation before he was recently transferred to the auto theft unit, according to the sheriff's office.

Reckling was honored multiple times by the sheriff's office, including commendations for life-saving, meritorious service and professional excellence.

"This agency is crushed," Bouchard said. "You can see it in their eyes how soul crushing this is."
