OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - 6 News Daybreak has the headlines you need to know to get your Friday started.

Coverage of hearing on Nebraska medical marijuana petition lawsuit The first hearing on the medical cannabis lawsuit is scheduled in court Friday at 2 p.m.

Nebraska officials filed charges in the medical marijuana petition fraud case last Friday after counties in Nebraska went through a signature verification process.

Still, Secretary of State Bob Evnen certified the petition, despite alleged falsified signatures.

Christa Eggers with Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana tells 6 News that all parties will be present at the hearing.

There is allegedly a motion pending to dismiss the case. The plaintiff has asked for an expedited decision ahead of Nov. voting.

Both sides of the case will be heard in court Friday.

The hearing is open to the public.

Decision 2024: Pillen potentially calling special session on "winner-take-all" format Governor Jim Pillen is expected to make a decision in the coming days on if he will be calling another special session.

The session would focus on changing Nebraska's electoral system to a "winner-take-all" format. Pillen first spoke of the possibility of the session back in June.

The "winner-take-all" format would award all five of Nebraska's Electoral College votes to a single candidate.

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham visited Nebraska on Thursday, urging Pillen to call the session.

A letter was sent by Nebraska's Congressional Delegation in support of the change.

Huskers hosting '400th sellout' game Friday Fans are gearing up for a historic Husker game Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska football is hosting a rare game, as UNL classes are going online to accommodate to the scheduling.

Heavy traffic is anticipated for the game, as it is the "400th sellout," as well as Nebraska's conference opener.

Officials advise those going to the stadium to have a set plan ready.

Nebraska's light show and drone display has been getting raving reviews lately. Friday will be the latest scheduled night game for fans to watch the light show.

Friday marks Week 4 for high school football in the Omaha-metro.

No. 2 Millard South is going up against No. 9 Millard North. Both have a record of 2-1.

Bellevue East is taking on No. 8 Papillion-La Vista.

Omaha North will face off against Kearney.

All games are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Throughout the season, 6 News will be posting scores and results on the High School Scoreboard.

Rain, big temperature change this weekend Meteorologist Jaret Lansford says it will be partly cloudy for the start of the day Friday with a high of 90 degrees.

"With the big game in Lincoln happening tonight, it will be a little on the warm side in Memorial Stadium," Lansford said.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy with a 30 percent change of a storm after midnight. The low will be 68 degrees.

Lansford reports that there is still a small chance of a "stray storm" in Lincoln during the game.

Saturday will be warm and muggy with a high of 86 degrees. Sunday, the first day of fall, will bring rain and storms with a high of 65 degrees.

Revenue Committee to hold hearing on Nebraska property tax High property taxes has been a major concern in Nebraska for years.

On Friday, the Revenue Committee will be holding hearings about state property tax at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.

They will be examining the current property tax valuation process and how to slow the rise of property tax valuations as rapid property value increases.

The committee will also discuss the state running all property assessment in Nebraska, as well as if county assessors should be merged with another office or be an appointed position.

Three state senators say the new property tax bill, LB34, will affect the 30 percent rebate that property tax payers would expect the claim on their 2024 taxes.

Omaha City Council recently passed a resolution to provide property tax relief for the city.
