OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - 6 News Daybreak has the headlines you need to know to get your Monday started.

Decision 2024: First day of early voting at county election offices Monday is the first day for early in-person voting at county election offices in Nebraska.

Voters must present an acceptable form of ID before voting. It is the first general election with voter ID.

Early voting ballots starting being sent out last week. The Douglas County Commissioner's office say they distributed around 85,000 ballots.

Officials in Douglas County have assured that public elections are safe and secure , especially with the new voter ID requirement.

Omaha Police investigating after Sunday morning homicide One person is dead and another is injured after a reported homicide Sunday morning in North Omaha.

Police say that multiple people were shooting near Los-Diablos Motorcycle Club at about 4 a.m. According to a statement, "hundreds" of people were running from the area.

Alexander Whitcomb, 37, was taken to Nebraska Medicine where he was declared dead.

A report says that another victim walked to a hospital with a gunshot wound, saying they were by Los-Diablos at the time of the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.

NE-TF1 sending more workers to help with hurricane rescue efforts Nebraska Task Force 1 is deploying additional members to the southeastern U.S. to help with searching for and rescuing victims.

A group is being sent Monday morning to North Carolina to exchange and replace the current group working after Hurricane Helene hit.

Two task force members will be sent to help with Hurricane Milton efforts. Hilton is expected to become a major storm.

NE-TF1 said in a Facebook post that they are "conducting search and rescue operations and providing crucial medical care in extreme conditions."

Gov. Pillen calls for State Capitol to be lit blue Monday The Nebraska State Capitol will be illuminated blue Monday evening to mark one year of the terror attack by Hamas on Israel.

A release says that the display symbolizes Nebraska's support of Israel with the colors of their flag.

"Israel remains the target of state-sponsored terrorism. This is a dangerous and devastating situation, not only for those living in Israel, but also the Jewish communities here in Nebraska..." Gov. Pillen said.

Pillen also recently called for an antisemitism bill and brought attention to recent hostage deaths.

Matt Rhule speaks with media after Huskers win against Rutgers Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule will hold his weekly press conference Monday after a 14-7 win over the Rutgers.

The Huskers are looking at a bye week before they take on Indiana on Oct. 19. The time has not yet been announced.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents recently gave their approval for the sale and consumption of alcohol at all Husker events.

Supporters believe selling drinks at football games will help cut down on binge drinking.

Omaha Public Schools holds Oct. board meeting The OPS Board of Education is meeting Monday at 6 p.m. for their Oct. meeting.

In last month's meeting, they approved the budget for the next school year.

The OPS website says that the budget is $812 million, with 39% coming from state aid, and 28% coming from property taxes.

School safety has also been a topic at meetings after a recent shooting at Omaha Northwest.
