Las Cruces offers free flu and COVID-19 for uninsured adults and children.

The no-cost vaccines will be administered at the Las Cruces Public Health Office at 1170 North Solano Ave. and the East Mesa Public Health Office at 5520 Holman Rd.

According to the Las Cruces Public Health Office, the vaccines will be available for uninsured adults and children with or without health insurance, thanks to the program which allows all children in the state of New Mexico to get shots regardless of their insurance status.

Walk-in appointments are available on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Solano Avenue office, and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.) at the East Mesa location.

Despite the Las Cruces Public Health Office offering walk-in appointments, they said they prefer if people schedule vaccinations ahead of time through the .

"Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are updated every year to offer us the best protection against these common viruses," said Dr. Miranda Durham, Chief Medical Officer of the New Mexico Department of Health. "Getting you and your family vaccinated every season helps reduce the chances of getting sick, missing work or school, or developing serious illness."

According to the Las Cruces Public Health Office, COVID-19 vaccinations are recommended year-round – with everyone encouraged to get the latest vaccination as soon as possible. As of late October, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine six months apart for people 65 years and older and for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.

  • Children younger than five years old- especially children younger than two.
  • Pregnant individuals and up to two weeks post-partum.
  • People aged 50 and older.
  • People of any age with chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease.
  • People whose immunity system is compromised.
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
  • People who live with or care for anyone at high risk for complications from flu, including healthcare personnel and caregivers of babies younger than six months.
  • For insured adults, please locate the nearest pharmacy or provider in the community for flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
