A Drone Camera Spotted This Lost Dog Just As She Encountered A Fox
DOBBS FERRY, NY — It was all hands on deck when a recently adopted rescue dog decided to explore the wilderness near her new home on her own.
Harrison-based Pet Rescue told Patch that when the beloved rescue dog named Lexi went missing in Dobbs Ferry this week, the Pet Rescue community sprang into action. They say what was beginning to look like hours of fruitless searching had a happy ending in time for dinner, thanks to quick mobilization of ground troops and a little air support.
Kevin Ramirez, a volunteer at Pet Rescue, where Lexi was adopted from just a few weeks ago, along with his girlfriend, Arlen Pintle, joined Lexi's owner, Suzette English, in combing the neighborhood.
But after an hour of searching on foot, the prospects of finding Lexi began to dim.
That's when Michael Coyne of Heatseeker Drone Services offered a new perspective. Coyne's drone allowed the search party to scan the entire neighborhood from a perfect vantage point leading them right to Lexi, who had made her way to a neighbor's backyard.
The rescue team's timing could not have been better. According to rescuers, Lexi was being chased by a fox. Fortunately, the drone's spotlight scared the fox away and Ramirez was able to swoop in to comfort the frightened pup.
"We almost threw in the towel, but something kept us going," Ramirez said. "When we heard they'd spotted her with the drone, it was such a relief."
"I was upset when I heard word about Elodie going missing," Ramirez added. "She was shy at the beginning of our relationship at the rescue and soon enough she went down as one of those dogs you can't forget. After the rescue, I was holding Lexi trying to calm her down from the shock of being on her own for so long. My girlfriend and I walked back with the owners to their apartment and brought Lexi in to be reunited with her family."
