A fresh Mex restaurant in a bustling Columbia shopping district is closed. What we know
A restaurant known for burritos and more in one of Columbia's key shopping districts is closed.
Uberrito Fresh Mex, which has been located at 275 Park Terrace Drive near Bower Parkway in the Harbison commercial area northwest of downtown Columbia, is listed as "permanently closed" on Google. The Columbia restaurant is no longer shown among Uberrito's locations on the company's website. The phone number listed for the Harbison area restaurant on Google and Facebook was not active when a reporter attempted to call on Wednesday morning.
There were signs hanging in the windows at the Columbia Uberrito on Wednesday morning that read "restaurant closed today." In a recent thread about the apparent closure on popular local Facebook group Columbia Eats, one user said those signs had been in the window for at least a week.
Uberrito opened the Park Terrace Drive location three years ago as the first South Carolina location of a Texas-based company. Uberrito's website lists a handful of current locations in the Houston, Texas area.
The company is known for burritos, bowls, nachos, salads and more, with customers selecting their preferred fillings and toppings in a cafeteria-line counter service style concept.
The location in Columbia is in the midst of the larger Harbison area that has been a popular retail and dining hub in the Midlands for years. Other businesses directly nearby include Walmart, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and Blaze Pizza, among a number of others.
