It was a night to forget for Liam Scales on Sunday. His red card at Wembley Stadium triggered a Republic of Ireland collapse against England in their final Nations League match. Heimir Hallgrimsson's side defended resolutely for 50 minutes and frustrated Lee Carsley's Three Lions, but, when the Celtic defender was shown a second yellow card for clipping Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham - conceding a penalty in the process - it opened the floodgates for a thrashing. Republic of Ireland were already consigned to a third place finish in Group B2, but Hallgrimsson said in his post-match press conference that some players "gave up" following Scales' dismissal.
